This year, Feel Good UK will be running a number of exciting projects, primarily targeting young disengaged males aged between 16 and 25 years living in the Portsmouth area.
Below is an overview of these projects. Tell us what you think!
5 DAY RESIDENTIALS
During the summer months we will be running 4 x 5-day residentials in which groups of 10 young people will engage in a number of challenging physical activities living away from home. These will include: abseiling; kayaking, canoeing and climbing. Participants will learn the only way they can conquer these challenges is to effectively manage their own mind and emotions and during the week we will teach the group how to do this.
Around the physical activities we will teach in a relaxed group workshop environment our drug-free thought and emotional management techniques to help the participants understand their thoughts and behaviour, and how they can effectively improve their thinking to improve their life experience.
We will get all individuals to analyse their own mental relationship with themselves, positively eliminating any negative self perceptions. We will get them to understand where these negative perceptions have originated from and create a healthy context in which to change this. Using the feeling of positive emotion to underpin all positive mental changes, we will teach an emotion based form of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which can be self applied by participants at any time in their life.
In essence we teach mental and emotional empowerment (which mainstream education ignores). The residential activities will compliment our mental training, the physical challenges presenting a demanding situation where participants can immediately apply our mental techniques to experience for themselves how our training can enhance and benefit their experience of life.
The residentials will all be free to access, paid for by successful grant applications.
40 WEEK FOOTBALL TRAINING
Participants aged 16 to 25 years will take part in weekly training at the Portsmouth branch of ‘Goals Soccer Centre’. Before each training session there will be an hour of classroom teaching working towards improving the way the participants think and feel about themselves and the world. Our proven combination of activity and theory will increase motivation in these individuals and help them to re-evaluate their lives and help them enter employment.
As well as the weekly training and workshop, the team will be entered into leagues and tournaments. Feel Good UK will run two teams, ‘Feel Good United’ and ‘Feel Good FC’ each with their own training session and workshop.
This project will be supported by Portsmouth Football Club. We will be hiring two of their top community coaches who were former pro football players to assist in the weekly training sessions, thus giving participants top quality training.
